I have been too quiet here. I have finally decided that I should continue to blog with my mobile shots here rather than keeping them on Instagram only. Oh well, I have been going out and around with my Huawei P8 mostly and I need to fully utilize the beautiful camera function on the phone. This year's Nine Emperor Gods Festival in Penang is great! I have been to this temple in Macallum Street, Penang almost every year. The name of the temple is Tow Boe Keong Kew Ong Tai Tay Temple. It is very famous and had a very strong history linked to the original temple in Magazine Road, Penang. Stay tuned for more of my mobile photography posts. I sure hope to update more often. This is my second trip there despite being to Genting Highlands so often. I did some reading online about this temple and was surprised to find that we actually missed out the “Caves Temple” during our visit there. We had only visited the outside part. Sounds silly. I will make sure we go to the inside on our next trip.

I attend this event almost every year. I enjoy this kind of event where I can freely shoot and get the best out of it. The Nine Emperor Gods Festival is a nine-day celebration on the first to the ninth day of the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.

These were taken during my February 2012 trip to Ipoh, Perak. I was visiting a few of the famous cave temples there and found these fascinating tortoises.

 

This is the finale of the festival. After devoting to be vegetarian for 9 days, a procession is held over the streets of George Town towards Penang Jetty to send off the Kew Ong Tai Tay. At the temple, much is done by devotees as the rituals for send of the 9 Emperor Gods. Trancing of the 三太子 or Na-zha deity is very popular and with plenty of joss sticks and fire challenge. This is an annual event taking place in George Town on the 9th month of the Lunar Calendar.

I went to this temple at Pantai Remis, Perak for deity birthday prayer. It is pretty hard for me to find the correct words for these shots but I guess I’ll let the shots tell the stories.
